Athens - Nafplio
Athens - Nafplio
We had a fun first full day! Ann, Jessica, and Michelle have shared with you their adventures from today:

In the morning, after a late breakfast and bus departure, we arrived at the Corinth canal. It was magnificent, for the canal itself stretched 6346 meters long, and the deep, aquamarine blue water was 8 meters deep. That was the first main scenic stop we saw, so of course, we took out our cameras/phones and got a ton of pictures.
Then, we went on to the Corinthian ruins, like the Temple of Apollo, etc. These ruins were from a long time ago, and they are ancient, so being around them was an amazing opportunity. The ruins ranged from full columns to fractions of a wall. There were also poppies that were bright red, reminding us of the California poppies back home.

After we visited the Corinth Canal and ruins, we left to eat at a restaurant for lunch.. We started off with eating bread dipped in oil followed by pork and chicken skewers. After, we were served feta and tomatoes stuffed with rice, both which were amazing and new to us. For desert, we had fresh fruit, apples and oranges. The meal was family style with everyone passing around dishes and plates piled with delicious foods.

After settling into our new hotel rooms at the Rex Hotel, we went into Nafplio for some late afternoon exploring and hiking. We walked up to the ancient castle that has 999 steps up to it (but we only went up 179 steps to see an amazing view of the city and ocean around.
Then, we took a walk on a path that winds right along the edge of the ocean to get to Nafplio's town square where we would eat dinner. First, we passed through the small streets to get our bearings in the small city for tomorrow's exploring and we compared how similar the town looks to Italian cities. Next came dinner at a restaurant where we split up into 3 tables and all ate family style with all the dishes to share. My group's favorite dish was a square of fried cheese drizzled with lemon juice and eaten on a piece of bread. After dinner, we walked back through Nafplio with a stop for gelato to celebrate Elvis' birthday and end an amazing day in Greece.
