Homecoming

Hi Families,
Due to our really busy last day in Athens (and super early morning), we will deliver our last post later.
We will see you at 12:30pm on Saturday 7th at SFO.  We arrive on Air France flight #84 from Paris.

We've learned a lot on this exciting adventure (in addition to all the eating!).  Once your child catches up on their sleep, please be sure to ask him/her.....

  • A few things they've learned about Greek culture
  • To explain the work of an archaeologist
  • The difference between preservation vs. restoration
  • The difference between a tourist and a traveler

​ ​ Athens - Nafplio We had a fun first full day!  Ann, Jessica, and Michelle have shared with you their adventures from today: Michelle In the morning, after a late breakfast and bus departure, we arrived at the Corinth canal. It was magnificent, for the canal itself stretched 6346 meters long, and the deep, aquamarine blue water was 8 meters deep. That was the first main scenic stop we saw, so of course, we took out our cameras/phones and got a ton of pictures. Then, we went on to the Corinthian ruins, like the Temple of Apollo, etc. These ruins were from a long time ago, and they are ancient, so being around them was an amazing opportunity. The ruins ranged from full columns to fractions of a wall. There were also poppies that were bright red, reminding us of the California poppies back home. Epidarus, Mycenae and Pottery

The next episode of our Greek adventure is brought to you by Arin, Marcus and Rohan! Arin Today was our second day in the city of Nafplio.   We woke up bright and early and had a delightful breakfast.   Then, we hopped onto the bus and traveled to the Theatre of Epidarus. The theatre was beautiful and had picture perfect views.   The guide explained the history of theatre and that freedom was a key factor in the creation of theatre.   We also learned about the acoustics of the theatre and how sound gets increasingly louder as you head towards the center of the stage. Everyone then climbed to the top and experienced the amazing views.   After this, we headed to the (ruins of the) guest house where they would keep sick patients.   We sat and some students recited a part of a play for us to enjoy.
