Mapping the Agora, the Acropolis, and More!

Dalya
This morning everyone woke up late by accident and was tired from our wonderful cultural party. After having a fulfilling breakfast we were ready for the short walk that came before we jumped onto the metro for the second time during this trip. We were on our way to see the Acropolis and the Agora. Arriving in downtown Athens we immediately set out to map the Agora. We learned about the drainage system, the shops, the government buildings and how they could tell time. We then went to the mind blowing Acropolis 🙃and talked about how the Parthenon worked and why it existed. The Parthenon was built by the Athenians to show their power and to worship Athena.
It was also used as a treasury and was built with a optical illusion making it look like it is perfectly straight. As we walked up the many steps that lead to the very top, we noticed how smooth and slippery the stones were from thousands of years of footsteps taking the hike to the sacred site. Sean and a few others even fell, but lucky everyone was alright. A funny moment was when Ariya was pooped on by a bird (luck is coming her way). Thankfully this city is full of adorable cats and dogs that make the streets adorable once again but sadly our feet felt like they were going to fall off from all the walking. For lunch, we had a variety of options. The chaperones gave us more freedom by allowing each of us to chose our own food. Most of us either had pizza or a sandwich from Everest. Then, some had dessert from a nearby ice cream.

After visiting the Acropolis, we walked over to a modern museum. The museum stood directly over ancient ruins. As we walked inside, we admired the ruins through the glass floor. We split up into two groups of twelve. We learned about art in the Acropolis and it's significance. The top level held original friezes (from the acropolis) of festivals and a battle between centaurs and lupiths. After going through the entire museum, we had some time to ourselves. Some of us went down to the third floor to watch a movie (of the history of the acropolis) while others looked at a LEGO model of the Acropolis. After 30 minutes of free time, we all went down to the first floor to meet up.
We shopped for around 45 minutes, going to various stores in the nearby vicinity of our dinner location. Some of us went to a music store to admire music while others simply window shopped. We then had dinner and enjoyed fries, chicken, pork, and beef.
